Figuring out what to do in life? You are not alone!

Posted on December 7, 2020December 3, 2020 by kkeptner

Do you ever ask yourself: Who am I?  Where am I going?

Going to college can be exciting, but can also be HARD – with a lot of decisions to make along the way. If you are not feeling so sure about your career choices right now and feel confused about where to go – don’t worry, most people feel the same way at some point in time!

Here are some ways to make this time a little easier:

Explore new interests.

A great way to discover who you are (and make decisions in life easier) is to figure out what your interests are – be open to new activities or take a class. Everything you do and learn can help lead you to a career that will be fulfilling and engaging.

If you really don’t know what you like or how that can translate to a career – consider taking an interest inventory to see if you can match up some of your personal interests with a career –

The Strong Interest Inventory ($70) can give you more detail about how your personality might fit with your career interests.

You Science ($29) offers another type of skills interest checklist that can guide you to career choices that might interest you.

Other career resources.

Here is a great blog post from The College Info Geek about choosing a major:

And, here is a list of career tests that are free!

Other tests that can be accessed online or via a consultant near you:

Want to go in more depth? Read a book!

The Parachute Book is a classic but still have merit in today’s world. Find it through your local library or order it from: http://www.parachutebook.com/

Lastly, don’t forget that all campuses have a career services department.  This is another great place to start exploring this process.  Don’t hesitate to reach out to them at any time!
